Waste Market News

US > Wood Waste

  • Rates: Steady
  • Supply: Steady
  • Demand: Decrease
  • Notes: This month wood waste prices were steady. A small decrease in the Purchaser Managers Index (PMI) showed further expansion in the market but the slightly lower rate of 57.5 dipped from 59.3 in October. Demand has decreased as is expected during this season but is expected to climb again.

US > Plastic Waste

  • Rates: Increase
  • Supply: Increase
  • Demand: Increase
  • Notes: The secondary recyclable plastic market has closed the year strong. PC is 30 cents more per pound in mid-December than it was in August. Prices for all polyolefin have also increased as has the demand.

US > Food Waste

  • Rates: Decrease
  • Supply: Increase
  • Demand: Decrease
  • Notes: Food waste availability was higher in December, much as expected during the holiday season. Additionally, as commercial restaurants have slowed down the overall amount of food being wasted on-site, the supply has only slightly increased.

US > Livestock Waste

  • Rates: Decrease
  • Supply: Decrease
  • Demand: Decrease
  • Notes: As expected, livestock waste prices continued to slide as did fertilizer prices throughout December. This trend will likely continue a bit further into 2021, but with a positive turnaround later in Q1 of 2021.

US > Crop and Harvest Waste

  • Rates: Increase
  • Supply: Decrease
  • Demand: Increase
  • Notes: Commodity crop growth prices have increased – leaving them at record levels during the last month of 2020. Experts even went as far as to say that the coming year’s outlook will be about 110% better than it was just a few months ago. That also means positive movement for the demand of crop waste in the market. The price for crop waste will increase as well due to this competing demand.

US > Tire Waste

  • Rates: Increase
  • Supply: Decrease
  • Demand: No Change
  • Notes: Due to the ongoing pandemic, the supply of tire waste has continued to decrease. The demand for scrap tire waste hasn’t declined, which inevitably leads to an increase in the pricing.

US > Wood Biomass Fuels

  • Rates: Increase
  • Supply: Decrease
  • Demand: Increase
  • Notes: Over the previous weeks, the demand for wood biomass fuels has increased, which has led to a 14% increase in price as well; this is because the winter in North America increases the demand for wood.

  • Demand: Slight Increase
  • Notes: Since the beginning of the year 2020, crude oil prices have hit a major slump. However, hopes for the development of successful coronavirus vaccinations have resulted in oil prices seeing slight increases since November 16th.
