Our History to Date
The EnMass Energy founders have been working on energy issues for years, and specifically turned their attention to the energy crisis in Pakistan in 2012. After working in the global renewable energy sector, and on projects in Pakistan specifically, the founders realized that solutions to the energy crisis in Pakistan were not going to come from national or provincial governments, or entities like the United Nations or the World Bank.
The process started with an intensive review of the energy market in Pakistan, and the current solutions being offered. Anyone who follows the energy situation in Pakistan knows that the government is quick to offer new solutions: LNG! Coal! New Hydro! Large-Scale-Solar! These are all promised under the auspices of upcoming elections, maybe the power crisis subsides for a few days or a week, but the pain quickly returns when the resource constraints begin again. EnMass Energy is fully supportive of any renewable generation technology, however the problems of Pakistan cannot be solved with intermittent technologies like solar voltaic and wind farms.
The problem lies with infrastructure, and (in addition to the large supply gap) the delivery of power to end consumers. The ONLY renewable solution to the problems Pakistan faces are turnkey baseload biomass power supplies, and a gradual easing of demand centers (such as industrial manufacturers) off of the national grid. Luckily agricultural waste is in abundance, and our clients are eager for new and innovative solutions to their power problems.
The founders began to form a group of collaborative organizations that could each play a specific part in the process required to build, supply, and invest in power projects using agricultural waste in Pakistan. EnMass Energy chose to grow the operational model used by smaller scale pilot projects generating industrial steam, and adopted a portfolio approach to development in order to justify the high costs of aggregated infrastructure investments.
In recent years, EnMass Energy has expanded outside of Pakistan to markets facing similar conditions and a reliance on imported fuels. Along the way, additional innovations in the way we apply our biomass sourcing models, weather data, and logistics have generated a streamlined organization that now supplies and operates some of the most advanced biomass projects in the world.
